The Nets are Ready for Fishing

In a couple weeks we are going to be trapping muskies and northern pike with fisheries biologist Rob Hilsabeck. Today, we had to get all of the nets treated and ready to go! We spent a couple hours this morning treating the commercial fishing nets and just making sure the equipment is ready when the big fish are ready to move up and spawn.

Once caught, the fish are then taken to Jake Wolf fish hatchery where they will be stripped of eggs and sperm and then released back into the wild. The goal is to raise 25,000 muskie and northern pike to 10 inches by this fall, and then stock those fish into Illinois' water!
